Happy Thursday! Today I am so excited to share with you some behind the scenes photos of our first shoot day on The Exhilarating and Fashionable Life of Emmy Rose Knightley. In case you missed it, you can read my previous post about how it all began here.
My call time was 7 am for hair and makeup. Luckily we were shooting at my house the first day, so I just jumped in the shower, had some tea and walked down the hall to get started with our makeup artist, Ksenyia Durst and Hair Stylist, Angie Bulmer. I’m not a morning person by any stretch of the imagination, so you can imagine I was a little sleepy.
This is my guest room that I’ve converted into my dressing room. We used it as the “wardrobe department”. The back rack with the hats and bags is mine. The other two racks are filled with pieces that were pulled by our Costume Designer, Alyx Cohn (seated) and Stylist, Kali Passiglia (my friend from In Spades blog who did some amazing pulls for us before she left for a weekend out of town). It was so strange to see this room even more messy than I normally keep it. 🙂
When I walked down stairs I could not believe how many people (and how much equipment) was already set up in my kitchen. Our producer Christina put signs up everywhere (ie. Wardrobe, Bathroom, Wifi) so that the cast and crew would know where everything was. You can see the house a bit cleaner on my home tour for NBC here.
The dashing Bryant Boon plays my husband Robert Knightley. Here he is with our director Rebecca Hu, learning to play Candy Crush for our first scene.
Our adorable makeup assistant Bunny (Ksenyia’s fur baby).
Dressed in my PJ’s for the first shot of the day. How do you like the bedhead?
Bryant and I getting some notes from Rebecca before we start. This was one of my most difficult scenes. I am preparing breakfast and I had to remember each step perfectly so I could repeat it over and over for each take.
Rebecca just won Project Greenlight’s 2016 Writing Competition!
Bryant and I run lines and get to know each other in between scenes. It is always an adventure to jump in and play opposite someone you have only met once before at casting.
And it’s back to sleep for me… at least until the camera’s start rolling.
So weird to have so many people in my bedroom! Luckily we have a nice little seating area.
I love this sleep mask that our Art Department made for me. So cute.
Our Director of Photography, Mykee Del Mundo, and his assistant Tevin Teixeria, hard at work.
Tara Brennan plays my mini-me, Young Emmy. We cast her off of an audition tape that her Mother sent to our casting director Scott David. As you can see the resemblance is striking.
Our Art Department created the drawings and butterflies on the wall, but most of the dolls and stuffed animals are mine from when I was a little girl. Tara said the drawings look just like the ones she made when she was little.

Trying on a gorgeous dress from Les Habitudes for our next scene. Sadly I never got to wear this one in the pilot.
Young Emmy and Older Emmy side by side.
Bunny is so photogenic, don’t you think?
Back into hair and makeup for our next scene. I am wearing this adorable dress from Pixie Market.
Rebecca working on a scene with the gorgeous and talented Carolyn Hennesy. I was beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to work with her!
Carolyn killing it as Angelique VanderHausen!
Ksenyina and Bunny taking a break.
Our Production Designer Lila Yanow and her assistant’s Maria Potapova and Jessica Tidwell, set up for our next shot.
James Black and I have been friends for a long time and it’s always a pleasure to work together. It turns out that he and Carolyn have worked together before too. Unfortunately, I was in another part of the house while this photo was taken, but I think James was pretending to be her lice extracting hair dresser. 🙂 Never a dull moment with these two on set.
Carolyn got into Queen mode, the moment she put on this gorgeous gown by Tiki Glam. Our wardrobe assistant, Mimu Motamedi, carries her train down the spiral stairs.
TJ Smith, Carolyn Hennesy and James Black.
Me just hanging out wearing a gorgeous Needle and Thread dress from BHLDN.
TJ Smith who plays Caleb Nolan, has his own YouTube channel.

How are you not intimidated with all those cameras in front of you?!

Great question! When I am in front of the cameras, I am focused on my character… what she needs, wants and her relationships to the other actors in the scene. There is so much to think about that I don’t have much time to be intimidated. But I always get a bit nervous for the first shot of the day.
Oh my gosh that actress playing you; such an uncanny resemblance! You look beautiful!
How do I see the show? It looks really fun!
