It feels especially fitting to celebrate America’s semiquincentennial in one of my favorite patriotic summer outfits: a navy blue anchor dress from Kiel James Patrick, paired with red accessories and an adorable matching anchor bandana for Charlie Cupcake.
Before I share more about our coordinating summer style, I thought it was time for a little life update!
Life Lately
Life has been busier than expected over the past few months since leaving my stylist role at Neiman Marcus. It took much longer than anticipated to sort out the hubby’s medical care and take care of things around the house that had been neglected over the past few years.
I’ve made quite a bit of progress, including cleaning out almost every closet in the house! It had been so long since I thoroughly sorted through my own wardrobe that I’m currently listing quite a few new pieces on Poshmark.
Charlie Cupcake Goes Back to School
Another exciting development is that both Charlie Cupcake and I went back to school!
Charlie recently earned his Level 2 Obedience certificate, and we are so proud of him! He’s back in agility class now, too, and has so much more focus than he did last year. I think having two stay-at-home paw-rents is making him feel especially happy and secure.
Back to Acting, Improv and the “Actor Gym”
As for my own schooling, I finally passed Level 401 Improv at UCB!
It has been amazing to complete the program online after beginning my improv studies in Los Angeles so many years ago. I’m also back in an in-person On Camera class on a regular basis.
After studying with a handful of the best acting coaches in LA, I’m thrilled to have found a brilliant Juilliard-trained teacher just a few miles from my home in Dallas. It’s so inspiring to be back in the “actor gym,” so to speak, and I’ve been feeling much more comfortable and creative in my audition tapes over the past couple of months.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you probably already know that I’m obsessed with Kiel James Patrick for my summer wardrobe. This cotton navy blue Anchor Dress is my newest favorite!

Kiel James Patrick often offers matching dog bandanas for some of its dresses—like the Madras dress and bandana set Charlie and I wore here—but I ended up finding Cupcake’s Anchor Bandana on Etsy.
I still can’t believe how perfectly the pieces match! If you saw them up close, you would think they were designed and sold together.
I love finding ways to coordinate my outfits with Charlie without looking overly matchy-matchy, and this navy anchor dress and dog bandana combination might be one of our favorites yet.
