Happy Valentine’s Day! Today I want to share another restaurant that I fell in love with at first bite. I found out about Salt’s Cure shortly after it first opened in 2011… a fellow actor friend was their head baker at the time, and as soon as he described the place I knew I had to try it. Unfortunately I never got to try any of his breads or bagels as I am gluten-free, but they always looked amazing!
Chefs Chris Phelps and Zak Walters operate by the principle that “if it’s not within six hours of the restaurant, it’s not on the plate”. They proudly source ingredients grown and raised in California, all of which are carefully butchered and crafted in house. This means that every dish cooked from scratch, including the pickles, ketchup, pastries and ice cream. As someone who is not only concerned with eating nutrient-dense, non GMO foods, but also with a handful of food sensitivities, I often find myself in a bit of a battle with the waiter for an ingredient list. Salt’s Cure is a place I always love to eat as they are not only happy to disclose what is in the food, but also passionate about sharing their excitement about what is going on in the kitchen! You can even grab a seat at the counter if you want to see the culinary magic up close. I hope you enjoy these photos from my last visit where I dined with Amina and her mother, who was in town visiting from Sweden.
Salt’s Cure has an award-winning wine list, that is 100% Californian and produced biodynamically and/or organically by small producers. I was on driving duty, so I didn’t get to order any wine the night we went. 🙁
The menu changes daily. Lunch, Dinner and Brunch specials are updated on this cute chalk board.
This avocado and citrus salad is one of my favorites!
Amina’s mother ordered this colorful winter salad of parsnip and mushroom.
I am obsessed with this roasted chicken and curried rice. I order it almost every time I dine here and it’s completely gluten-free.
Amina ordered the steak and fries. Yum!
These are the best roasted carrots I have ever had. So sweet and savory and made with only olive oil, sea salt and herbs.
The chocolate pudding with marshmallow fluff and graham crackers is to die for. The pudding is gluten-free, but I let Amina and her mom eat the graham crackers.
This grapefruit pie is one of their best selling deserts.
Salt’s Cure is located at 7494 Santa Monica Blvd. West Hollywood, CA 90046. They are open daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. Reservations are recommended.
Photos by Amina Touray and a few by me.
